IEEE Senior Membership — Thank You

By , September 25, 2012 9:42 am

Today, I received a notice from IEEE that my application for the IEEE senior membership has been approved.

Despite the fact that both my university degrees (B. Engr. from Tsinghua University in 1999, and MS from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2000) were in civil engineering, I started my career in guidance, navigation and control in 2001, and became a member of IEEE in the same year. During the past 12 years I have served multiple positions in multiple companies across multiple areas. It is a great pleasure and honor that my past works were recoginized by IEEE in the form of senior membership.

I would like to give special thanks to Chester Chu (currently the Deputy Manager of Guidance and Control Section at NASA Jet Propulsion Lab) for being my first mentor in this exciting field. Chester’s pioneering work on the Pathfinder project is a perfect example of the IEEE spirit – advancing technology for humanity. I would also like to say thank you to Matt Thompson (currently the General Manager of Developer and Platform Evangelism at Microsoft Corporation) and Sin-Yaw Wang (currently the VP of Engineering at WatchGuard Technologies) for their guidance and coaching during my tenure at Sun Microsystems. It was with your encouragement and support that I  initiated the Unix-Center.Net project, which was my attempt to practice the above-mentioned IEEE spirit.

I would also like to thank the following persons for their review, feedback, suggestions, reference, and help during the process to apply for IEEE senior membership. They are
